Meet the Author/Illustrator ...Yvette VanDerBrink was getting ready for work with her auction company, VanDerBrink Auctions, like any day when she discovered a lump in her right breast. That lump started a whirlwind of doctor appointments, and Yvette was diagnosed with breast cancer in December of 2007. Faith, determination, humor, and a fabulous support system helped Yvette through surgeries, weeks of chemotherapy, and radiation. |
Yvette used her personal experiences with breast cancer for the book. Yvette felt that there was a need to bring a kid-friendly way to talk about breast cancer. Cancer is such a trying time for any family. There are so many emotions and decisions. It not only affects the patient but everyone around them. She hopes that this book can be used as a tool for families, teachers, and medical personnel to help explain to kids about going through cancer with their family. Yvette completed treatments October 14, 2008. Yvette hopes that her experiences will help others. Yvette lives on a farm in Southwest Minnesota with her husband, Steve, and their two kids, Emily and Johnathon. A portion of the proceeds of this book will be donated to help women with cancer.
